Bowenwork is a gentle, soft-tissue body therapy which induces healing and restores balance. Bowenwork involves the practitioner applying a series of gentle, rolling ‘moves’ over specific locations, which stimulate muscles and tendons while initiating relaxation and structural realignment. Bowenwork balances energy similar to acupuncture, and like acupuncture, Bowenwork is a holistic, full-body treatment. Bowenwork is conducted via the practitioner’s hands instead of the use of needles.

It has been said that Bowenwork is as powerful as acupuncture, as relaxing as massage, as balancing as cranio-sacral therapy, and as effective as spinal adjustments – all in one! Historically referred to as “The Original Bowen Therapeutic Technique,” and designed and perfected by Thomas A. Bowen (1903-1982) of Australia, this therapy is now taught to practitioners around the world.

Bowenwork is also referred to as ‘the homeopathy of bodywork,’ for each session addresses one’s individual body holistically (from head-to-toe) as well as at the body-mind level. Bowenwork is effective for many dysfunctions of the musculo-skeletal system as well as for chronic pain syndromes and neurological complaints including (yet not limited to) frozen shoulder, low back pain, neck pain, disc-associated pain, strains, sprains, asthma, hayfever, stomach problems, urinary issues, headaches, hormonal imbalances, fertility problems, TMJ dysfunction, fibromyalgia, pain from Lyme disease, arthritis, and other issues inducing chronic pain syndrome.

Bowenwork triggers a restorative healing process at the cellular level and within the nervous system to melt away pain, restrictions and tension. It is safe and effective for newborns, the elderly, and for children and adults alike.

The Sessions

Bowenwork sessions last between 45-60 minutes. Dr. Frodermann provides corrective procedures tailored to one’s presenting issues. The therapeutic initiation of Bowenwork continues for several days after the session as one’s body integrates the work provided during the session and attempts to rebalance. Building on previous sessions, a treatment stimulates a retraining of the body-mind to ‘reset’ and return to a more healthful state. A Bowenwork session has been likened to rebooting a computer after the screen ‘freezes’. The ‘reboot’ releases energy to relaunch a more functional body-mind state.

Bowenwork offers optimal results when utilized in a series of five consecutive weekly sessions, followed by monthly ‘tune-up’ sessions. Using Bowenwork with clients for nearly twenty-five years, Dr. Frodermann is continually impressed with the healing affects noted by her patients with this gentle therapy. Dr. Frodermann herself enjoys receiving Bowen at monthly intervals.

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us.
